Kelly Munk, Pâtissier: Born in Rhodesia and professionally trained in Europe, started baking at age 12, working in an Italian Pastry shop in Sevenoaks Kent England. The owner Piemario Lichi was Italian & his wife Henni was German teaching her a great variety of Continental Tortes & Pastries.
By the time it came to leaving school Kelly knew that she wanted to become a Pâtissier – Pastry Chef. She attained a certificate from ‘Oxford University’ in ‘Food & Nutrition’ and studied at South Bank Polytechnic’s 'National Bakery School’ City & Guilds where she received her degree in
Pastry & Confectionery.
Kelly moved to California where she worked for The Sheraton Palm Springs, among other fine Bakeries as she toured California. Kelly finally came to reside in Gig Harbor, Washington in 1985, where she worked at the Village Bakery in Des Moines,
until it sold in 1989.
So in 1989 Kelly started a successful Wedding Cake business Tortes n Tarts, and provided gorgeous desserts and English specialty items to Dunlap’s Specialty Bakery in Gig Harbor
until it closed in 1993.
During this time she had married, had 2 beautiful daughters and had started a Machine shop business with her husband, which was increasingly taking her time. It became evident that she would have to give up her Passion for Confectionary to help run the family's machining business.
As time passed, she knew that she wanted to return to baking. She started working as a Pastry Chef for a successful Catering Company. she was finally happy again, doing what she loved; her passion for creating beautiful Wedding cakes and Confections.
Kelly relaunched Tortes n Tarts in its new beautiful Commercial Kitchen set on 4 lovely acres, providing the community with upscale
desserts & wedding cakes.
